Week of Seeking: A 5-Day Prayer and Fasting Guide
Day 1: The God of the Foundations
- Scripture: "Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand." Job 38:4
- Reflect: We often start prayer by telling God how big our problems are. Today, flip the script. Spend your time acknowledging how big He is. Before you ask for anything, worship Him for His role as the Creator and Architect of your life.
- Fasting Focus: Social Media/Entertainment. Fast from the "noise" of the world today to focus your mind on the magnitude of God.
- Prayer Point: "Lord, I repent for making my problems bigger than my view of You. Today, I acknowledge that You laid the foundations of the world and You hold my life in Your hands."
Day 2: The God of the Boundaries
- Scripture: "Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I said 'This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt'?" Job 38:8, 11
- Reflect: God sets boundaries for the mighty ocean. If He can control the tides, He can control the circumstances that feel like they are flooding your life. He is the God of the "breakthrough" and the God of the "limit."
- Fasting Focus: Sweets or caffeine. As you feel the "craving," let it remind you that God is the one who provides your strength and sets the limits of your endurance.
- Prayer Point: "Father, I thank you that the enemy cannot go one inch further than You allow. I trust Your boundaries and Your protection over my family and my future."
Day 3: Seeking with All the Heart
- Scripture: "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13
- Reflect: To seek with "all" means leaving nothing behind. Fasting is the "all" in action. It’s a physical "I’m serious, Lord." Are there areas of your heart you’ve kept hidden or held back?
- Fasting Focus: Lunch or mid-day meal. Use your lunch hour to go into a private place and talk to God. Replace physical food with spiritual bread.
- Prayer Point: "Lord, I don't want to just seek Your hand (what You can give me); I want to seek Your face (who You are). Search my heart and remove anything that hinders my intimacy with You."
Day 4: Breaking the Chains
- Scripture: “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?" Isaiah 58:6
- Reflect: There are some "mountains" in our lives that only move through the combined power of prayer and fasting. Today, pray specifically for the heavy burdens—addictions, long-standing family strife, or spiritual oppression.
- Fasting Focus: If health permits, do a deeper fast today (maybe food from 9am-5pm) to signify your desperation for God’s intervening power.
- Prayer Point: "God, break the chains that have bound me and my loved ones. I stand on Your promise that nothing is too hard for You."
Day 5: From Hearing to Seeing
- Scripture: “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you." Job 42:5
- Reflect: The goal of this week isn't just to get through it; it's to have a "Job moment"—an encounter where God becomes more real to you than He has ever been. As you conclude your fast, expect a fresh revelation of His presence.
- Fasting Focus: A "Daniel Fast" - fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. End the week with a posture of total surrender.
- Prayer Point: "Holy Spirit, I don't want to just live off of someone else’s testimony. I want my own encounter. Let me see You working in my life, and give me the peace that passes all understanding."
